My first encounter with the nature of Altai revealed that in this environment, one must act with utmost sensitivity—without wounding it, without disturbing the spirits or the people who honor ancient traditions.
This is a living land, brimming with secrets, meanings, and narratives.
When I first journeyed here, I wondered what artistic practice I could enact within the project’s framework. I planned to use natural materials found on-site and, intuitively, brought along a fragile vintage mirror gifted by my sister, who called it “enchanted.” That mirror became the starting point of my dialogue with Altai. “…I will share with you the reflection of my eyes. What remains unseen, behind your back…”
Continuing my exploration of the subtle connections between the visible and the unseen, I now carry with me conduit objects akin to portals. They are essential to my perception and to the possibility of dialogue with nature.
Sometimes, these offerings remain in the landscape. At other times, they illuminate the soil and contours of the terrain. Human hands might contrast their lines, or the objects vanish entirely under rain, fire, or snow, dissolving into the earth.
